At IFAT 2024 in Munich, Maacks will showcase its next-generation software and reliable radar sensors for digital monitoring of waste bins and recycling stations. Digitisation expert Maacks has integrated AI into the new software to enhance data management and optimise driving routes. This streamlines waste collection, reducing costs and environmental impact.

Maacks, a pioneer in digital waste management, utilises the latest AI technology to drive forward development. Over 14 years, Maacks has evolved into the leading player in the Danish market in this field and looks forward to presenting its latest solutions to an international audience from 13-17 May at IFAT 2024, this year's major European trade fair for environmental and waste management.

Visitors will experience how digital technology can solve a pressing issue: overfilled or too empty waste bins are a daily reality in many municipalities when employees make their regular collection rounds. This costs working hours, causes frustration, and can lead to poorer service, poor sorting, pollution, and increased CO2-emissions.

BrainyBins®solution from Maacks digitises data collection and creates an overview, operational stability, and optimal decisions. Hans Christian Pedersen, CEO of Maacks, comments on the significant advantages:

- The emptying frequency can be reduced by up to 40 per cent with BrainyBins®, as monitoring and emptying of waste containers become data-driven and can be carried out as needed.

Future digitisation of waste logistics
BrainyBins® is a comprehensive solution that includes software and sensors for optimising logistics at recycling stations and emptying waste bins. It consists of:

  • BrainyBins® Dynamic Route for route driving optimisation
  • BrainyBins® Recycling Station for recycling station management
  • BrainyBins® Navigation as a mobile tool for drivers
  • BrainyBins® Radar sensors that monitor fill levels, etc., in containers

See BrainyBins® in operation
This is the first time the new BrainyBins® Dynamic Route will be shown in operation at IFAT, and visitors will be able to live follow the use of the platform on a screen. Here, the system is connected to several customers operating a BrainyBins® system with Dynamic Route. Maacks currently has over 7,000 sensors in operation and handles 1 million collections.

AI-optimised route planning
The prognosis tool in the BrainyBins®platform is based on Artificial Intelligence (AI). This makes the route planning system continuously better at predicting when each container should be emptied next, as it incorporates current measurements with BrainyBins® fill level sensors, history, drivers' reports, and other data sources.

Precise data from BrainyBins® Radar
BrainyBins® Radar sensors, Maacks' fill level sensors, are equipped with the latest radar technology, ensuring accurate measurements of fill levels, whether it's bottles, pizza boxes, paper, metal, or something else. Data such as fill level and temperature are continuously sent via the cloud to the BrainyBins®platform.

- There is great interest among German municipalities, where we are in negotiations with several municipalities, says Hans Christian Pedersen, CEO of Maacks ApS. He continues:

- Our customers, who are municipalities and waste handling companies, find that they can improve operations within waste management, providing better tools for employees, improving citizen satisfaction, and reducing CO2-emissions and contributing to meeting ambitious climate plans.

Dynamic route planning
BrainyBins® is a complete system that also includes an administrative module. With the sensors and the administrative software, emptying can be optimised and route planning automated. It saves time and money, protects the environment, and gives employees a more meaningful daily life.
